Behind the Veil: The Untold Histories of the World

Received after the party won a trial by combat, this book is so old that the ink is all essentially faded. Certain pages appear as though water has dropped on them, like rain. Oddly enough, these pages are clearly legible. They read as follows:

…and he took up the mantle as the servant to the Ohded Nass and rose up against his father’s army to smite them. And he brought forth the void to vanquish his foes and the flame sent forth from his hands to burn them. Their cries were for naught for King Alulim stood powerless against his Adversary…

…So it was that King Alulim set the bronze lamp inside the circle to call forth the shackled spirit. And lo the spirit of air spoke and said, “Mine is the power granted thee threefold.” King Alulim was not for speech for his breath was taken with fear. But when he caught his courage he bade, “Is not the power of Life and Death yours to command?”. The spirit replied, “It is.”. And the king’s firstborn was returned to him that day…

…the youngest prince was mocked by the Adversary, who had been his brother. “Standeth not before the might of the Ohded Nass, little one. For not even the Sentinel of the Alliers may stand before He That Fathered Darkness.”. And the ground shook as Adversary and Sentinel brought arms to bear, brother drew blood of brother…

…And the chasm opened, likened to a many tooth maw standing on the earth before the walls of the mighty city. From it drew forth abominations in hosts to spill themselves upon the warriors of nations. And when all the might of Emperor Alulim had been all but spent they came marching across the valley, blazing as though they were forged from the Sun. And Hashkar, who was the master of the army of gold, wielded the great staff which was his power over them. Rasalom spat and cursed that the army of gold overpowered the creatures of his master’s design…

…and the people praised Hashkar as their savior which caused Emperor Alulim great consternation. Thus he called for the third time on the power of the spirit of air and fire to destroy the staff and to hide away the army of gold…
